Part 1 of a 2 Part Story

Dulchurn, Dalachurn or Dail Chaorian (Dale of the Rowans) was a wee township up Glen Banchor up behind the Badenoch town of Newtonmore. There was a fairy hill there - an entrance to the underworld of the fairies - it’s a prominent lumpy hillock in the landscape where once a hill fort stood. Perhaps growing up right next to this magical place was the reason why local legend Seumas Dail Chaorain had so many intriguing strokes of luck and adventures - they called him the ‘Baron Munchausen of the Highlands’! Many thanks to the amazing Calum Maclean Project for preserving and sharing these precious local stories of a much loved local character!
