This tune was commissioned recently by Mary Rostock for her husband Marc for his 50th birthday. She said that Mark really like fast Scottish music. She was in luck because I am very lucky to work with piper Ross Ainslie who can play any tune like a bat out of hell at the drop of a hat. It turns out Marc was a big fan of Ross’ music. I actually had a new reel bouncing about my head that I’d started singing while zooming over the Drumochter Pass one night in the dark on the way home to Grantown. I developed this tune ‘seed’ into a modern, riff-based bagpipe tune. I had 6 parts but that was a bit excessive if I’m honest. it’s now a standard 4-parter. Thank to Ross Ainslie again for the minor tweaks and tips to a non-piper like myself. A few weeks later Marc actually met Ross after he was performing at Cambridge Folk Festival. Marc was very tickled with the tune apparently.
