In the North East many folk say ‘Hud Chappin’ meaning ‘keep powering on’, and ‘“jist chavin' awa” (just working away). Both of these phrases feature in the refrain sung but the choir at the end. The choir is in fact just my own voice, layered up a dozen times, because I was isolating with Covid when wrote and recorded the tune. The whole thing was made in the wee cottage in my back garden! I think the slightly silly backing vocals must have come about because I just wanted to cheer myself up a bit! This tune was commissioned by Jenny, Kyle and Holly McHardy for an important birthday of Jenny’s husband David, who’s favourite phrase is ‘Hud Chappin!’. This track is about when times are tough, keep going, face things and use your sense of humour to get through it all.
