1. THE SPEYSIDE LINE [H Napier]

"The railway was never far from the river, indeed there were places where the track seemed almost to hang above the water...it was a truly delightful journey," praises Keith Fenwick in his book The Speyside Line. With the line closed to passengers and freight by the late 1960s, and the tracks removed, the route now forms some of the most scenic sections of The Speyside Way for walkers and cyclists. At one time part of the old Inverness and Perth Junction Railway, The Strathspey Railway is now a 10 mile preserved line from Aviemore to Boat of Garten and Broomhill. The organisation and its volunteers continue to work very hard to realise its dream of returning steam trains to Grantown-on-Spey.
